My 1991 Camry 4-cyl flunked the HC portion of the emissions..What might cause this and are there any quick fixes?

ntxgb, see my post on your other thread. Here is a reference I keep to help me trace emissions problems. You can try the cheap and simple stuff yourself.

The funny part about this is when it first got the emission test the NOx failed, after replacing the plugs, wires, dist, rotor and EGR valve the NOx was fine and the HC is high.  I used Premium gas before the first test and regular before the second test..any coincidence there?

Regular gas is not the problem.

I flunked also in the HC area.I think I flunked because a couple of thousand about 7 I got a new cat. con. put on.I think they gave me either a cheap or bad convertor.I  took it to a shop that has a gas analyzer and they verified that I had a weak conv.Somehow they would'nt tell me how they got it to pass for a $100.I since then have gone back to the shop where I got the weak con. and got them to install another one for the cost of labor.2 yrs. from now I'll see if it passes if I still have the car as it has 200,000 on it now.
