My wife owns a 1998 6 cylinder toyota camry with about 83,000 miles. One question at what mileage should I service the transmission? Also, what other preventive  maintenance is due at this point? We have owned the car since 28,000 mile in year 2000 and all we have done are regular oil changes and a couple of brake jobs, She has an engine light that has come on a good while now and that is the result of the oxygen sensor, which one I'm not sure, but they are $70.00 and we have been putting off fixing this. What problems can this cause? Any information or suggestions are appreciated, thank you.....  Oh yea, one more thing. The engine recommends 5w30 weight oil, is there a prefered brand to put in the toyota's or is that just a matter of personal preference. I like mobil 1 oil.

since you haven't done any maintance, other then oil changes. i would do your 90k service early. change all engine and trans fluid, major tune up, possible valve adjust and fuel filter, at 90k you also do a timing belt, drive belt, optional on water pump and bearings.

the o2 sensor that useally goes out is the one located closest to the firewall. but due to the age of the vehicle you could replace both.

mobil is fine.
