hey guys.ive recently run into a problem.when my car is cold and i try to start the car it just turns over but doesnt start.after like 10 min. of pumping the gas and turning the key it finally starts.when it starts it stumbles and stays at low really low rpm's.after revving the car higher than like 3k rpms for a minute or so it starts running normal with no problems.this problem only happens when the car is cold.ive already changed the oil,oil filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, thermostat, hoses, and also threw in the new lucas fuel additive.ive any body can please help me id appreciate it.

Skip Lucas products. 1) Clean your IAC valve
2) Clean & test the cold-start injector
3) Check for vacuum leaks

Cold start injector (sounds like it) but like the guys above me said, clean some stuff up too.If it starts after you pump it up that sounds like a definite fuel problem in cold weather.

Next time it does that try a little experiment.Get someone to pour some gas on a rag,and get them to hold the soaked rag against the throttle body or the intake hose, see if it fires up.

well guys as i was leaving my job i got into my car and it didnt start.the engine turns but it wont fire.i dont think its a fuel problem cuz i can smell lots of gas fumes when i pump the gas as i try to start it.timing belt is fine.every thing else is fine.now im wondering if its the distributor.maybe im not getting any spark.sure as hell feels like its not sparkin.guys please help.this is the only car i have and i rely on it alot.

Stick your finger in one of the ignition wires and try starting it,see if it is alive, j/k. Try a new distributor, plugs, and wires. And clean the engine up real good (sea foam or something) If that doesn't work (it should) then you need to take it to the shop

i took out the spark plugs and they were all soaked in gasoline.id imagine that if they are soaked in gas that the distributor wont spark through them.any opinions?maybe the car got flooded in gas?

check coil, you mentioned it but you didn't say if you tested it. only that you have weak spark and that is usually due to coil.

You did a tune up but no cap, rotor or wires???? In cold weather it takes a lot more spark energy to start the car. Check the resistance on your wires which should be around 6k-10k ohms.
If after the above and it still runs like crap I would check to make sure the cold start injector and the other injectors are not leaking or otherwise damaged.
I make sure I run some sort of Techrolene(spelling?) which is found in Chevron gas products or dump some in bouht at the parts store just to make sure the injectors stay clean and carbon build up stays gone, good luck

i think this bit of info may help you.in the bigging my car didnt start my plugs were soaked in gas.my spark seem weak.so i spent days trouble shooting then i said let me check the timming and it started right up.its very easy to do.for 114 dollars at auto zone you get a kit.remove your belts the one motor mount passenger side upper bracket.remove timming chain cover upper and lower.remove crank puller.loosen adjustment pully should be right by your cam pulley.and replace belt manke sure you cam is set theres a hole should face straght up theres a mark on the back cover.rotate the crank by hand until the number one piston is completely up tdc top dead center.now your rotor should be faceing about 40 after like a clock that should line your number one spark plug wire.if theres anymore info be more then happy to help you can email me at
joseortiz28@optonline.net.good luck.BEFORE ALL THIS YOU SHOULD CHECK THAT IT IS OFF FIRST.

Had the same problem.---One or two bad plug wires, add a new rotor and distributor cap.---Bet it will run fine then.--You were just compounding the problem by flooding the engine.

If you never changed the plug wires before, the heat has deteriorated them. Change them for sure. they break easily within the casing from getting brittle.

I have a similar issue, but it gets even stranger than that. About 3 days ago, my 92 camry le (2.2 ltr) started to skip. Fearing that the timing had jumped I switched it off immediatly. Got it back to the shop checked the timing. No problems there. While I had it in the shop I went ahead and did a complete tune up, Changed distributor cap, rotor, plug wires, plugs, timing belt, water pump, pcv valve, and such. Motor still doesn't start. I checked and I got spark. Pulled the plugs and my motor is flooded with gas. I cleaned my old plugs and put them back in, and the motor tries to start, but gives up. I let off the starter and the motor begins to diesel running backwards! It even blows exhaust out the breather.
I rechecked the timing and this happened again. I was about to give up and before I left it lastnight I turned it over and it started it up fine. I want to know what's going on before this happens again so please help me too.

when you guys replaced your igintion rotor did you remove the cover for the coil.and inspect for cracks and short...if thats ok test your temp sensor (alot of them short to ground..)..then test your tps (it could be sticking wide open which will dump fuel and screw timing...) hope this helps some of you.
