Please help.

I have spent a lot of money trying to fix this problem. The car is giving 10 mpg on the highway with air conditioner on. I have tunned up the car, changed the timing belt etc. but the problem still persists. My mechanic suggested to buy a fuel injector kit. Will this fix the problem or make it better? Should I look for other problems with the car?

The mechanic connected the car to the computer and the result was that it needed service but everything is new from the dealer (cables, spark plugs, filter etc.).

The car is V4 with 112,000 miles.

Please help.

sorry dude i just saw this question for the first time. Have you changed you oxygen sensors? They can affect your gas mileage and will be alot cheaper than fuel injectors. In fact i can seel you both the sensors you need for you car if you want to try that i'll give you a deal my email is lavalleemike22@cox.net

The problem is the oversized wheels you have, and any other extra weight you might have in the car, i.e. stereo system etc. I have a 2000 Camry v6 5spd supercharged @ 7 psi. Stock I was getting 18 to 19 mpg in the city on the stock 15's. Once I started rolling on 18"Arelli Czar's w/ 225/40/18 tires the mpg went down to 14 mpg. Now w/ a 1000 watt stereo and 7 psi, I'm lucky if I get 10 mpg. Food for thought, the stock setup(rims & tires) is about 36 lbs. My current setup is 48 lbs. Point blank your car needs to shed unnecessary lbs.

YOu may want to have your EVAP system checked. IF the ecu is getting the vapor from the charcol canister it could be burning more fuel in its place. Also you may want to check to see if your charcol canister is full of fuel. Your evap system could be dumping fuel there. Or you could have a leak but, i'm sure you checked for that.

Its in the back. You can follow the hose from the gas filler tube. Its located in the center of the vehicle right about the rear axle. Its plastic and has a couple of valves and a bunch of hoses on it. If you remove it make sure you label the hoses so you know where they go back to.

i would check your egr system next. there is no gas smell or somke when you drive... It has to burning rich if its not leaking. have the emissions checked on it and see if its burning to much fuel.

you can save alot more gas by lowering your RPM but i dont no about the damage it might or might not cost

ok, so lavaleemike seems to be the only one on this forum that seems to be helping out.

as for the gas mileage you seem to be getting, wow, i dont really know what to suggest...
ok, so the computer only said maintenence, nothng more? no check engine lights or anything?
if you're stuck, i'd recheck the fuel pump, filter, and injectors... but you've probably done that, so i dont know

The problem has nothing to do with the weight of the car that guy that said that is wack. His car gets crappy gas milage because it is a supercharge V-6. Factery wheels weigh more than costom wheels 90% of the time. Check your evap system if that doesn't work check the computer. If the injecters are stoped up the car will not run right and it most likely wont burn to much gas, it won't burn enough to run very good.

my camry is barely getting 16mpg highway and i'm stock. well i dont have my spare tire or backseats in at the moment but u would still expect better from Toyota. just think, the celica's are gettin close to 30mpg with more HP and higher RPM's.
