98 Camry LE...
Ok I don't know if this is a know problem with this particular model year, but recently my 98 camry airbag light has been on and its weird because sometimes it will go off about 5 minutes or so and then sometimes it will blink and again it will come on regularly when I start up the car for a 3 seconds and then go off (normal) for that ofcourse, but other than that its strange. Is this a reminder light to get my airbag serviced for its 10 years? Now I have been messing with the instrument cluster here and there fixing blown out light bulbs and fixing the "D" shift indicator light for some reason that it keeps popping out don't know why exactly, but it has been replaced is what I'm saying with a new bulb. Anyway I thought it could be a short maybe from pulling it out too much, but I doubt it and I've checked all the wires and connections and they seem fine. Anyone has this problem with their camry with the airbag light?

I have a 98 camry and i've never had this problem. I'd assume its something electrical due to your having to change those light bulbs etc. maybe its all connected.

Mine just came on as well. '98 Camry. Tried disconnecting the battery to reset it but no such luck.
This sucks. It's very un-nerving seeing that light on!
Anyone else have any ideas?

yeah I know I tried putting black tape over it, but at night the red still glows behind it lol. I hate that this is happened. BMW's have problems with there air bag systems too. Every bmw I've seen had there airbag lights on.

sensors are shot. they are expensive (and why shouldnt they be?)
so basically your airbgas will not deploy upon a crash.
i forgot if there is an airbag fuse/relay that you can pull that may disable the light and the sensor completely. this would be good in case you do get into a crash and the airbag deploys sometime after impact, which would cause you more injury.

Perhaps I air to far on the side of caution but, i would suggest spending the 600 to ensure my safety.

i'm wondering if there are any other sensors throughout the car or if everything is contained in the airbag 'brain' unit in the dash.

i took it in to a mechanic. he said it tests out as the 'clog spring' in the steering wheel airbag assembly causing the light and he couldnt reset it.
i'm selling the car (getting an 02 this weekend) and want it fixed properly before selling so i'm going to pony up the $300 for the repair.

It's a clock spring, not a clog spring. At my shop, about 75% of the time an airbag light is on for a clock spring.

well that explains why i can't find it discussed anywhere. (ie clog vs clock!)
so at $300-$350 is this a reasonable amount to pay for this repair?

I replaced my clock spring this afternoon. Air bag light was on, and my horn and cruise didn't work. Air bag light is still on. Now that the system is fixed (or, so I think), how do I turn off the light? Thanks.
