Can anyone tell me why I have broken front strut mounts
after getting a wheel allignment?
This has happened twice on my 1999 Camry.

I replaced them with a part I bought new at
my local Napa parts store. The second time I bought a new one off the internet.
They looked exactly like what came off originally.

I'm not real sure how they work, it appears they are a rupper bushing
sealed in a metal housing. The strut shaft goes up through the center and
is held with a hex nut. This allows some movement at the top but softens it.
The mount is bolted to the body with 3 bolts, inside the engine compartment.
When the rubber loosens inside the housing you get a clunking that's really
hard to tell where it's coming from. I replaced the struts, tie rod ends and ball joints
before I figured it out. The strut mounts are over $100.00 apiece from Napa.
Once you hear that clunking there's no mistaking what it is.
I just can't figure how an allignment can possibly break them, ther's nothing
at the mount that's adjustable.
