I've had some episodes with my car lately and it's getting to be more expensive than it's worth. My parents noticed that and asked their mechanic about some pricing, and I found out that I might be overpaying.
So I figured I might as well use this forum and ask you guys if you know any good Toyota mechanics (preferably some who specialize in Toyota) in SD area who aren't ripoffs.
The specific car in question is a 1996 4-cyl Camry LE, 177k miles, auto.
Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately, this is an all to familliar problem. To find a good mechanic is hard enough but to find one who is honest too is even tougher. I can garantee that most everyone who reads this forum would agree. I'm sure many of them have been ripped off by a mechanic shop or dealer at some point or another.
Me personally, I always try to do the work myself. That's not always possible as special tools or equipment may be needed that is just not worth for a car owner to go out and purchase for a one time use only. Those are the times that I have to bite the bullet and take it to a shop. My best advise is to research a problem you may have (the internet is a good start) and see if its something you can do yourself. A good idea is purchase a mechanics book from the dealer for your specific car. It is a very handy book that could save you hundreds of dollars in the future.
Good luckā¦.
