I have a 96 camry 4cyl. when i start it up after it has set for a few hours, it makes a rattling noise on the right side of the engine. Only last about 2 min. then its fine. Does it worse when its real cold out. anybody have any ideas what it could be? Thanks

shot in the dark, but have your belts hardend?
if it gets worse, bring it to a mechanic.

It may be your idler pulley. Did you change it or have it changed when doing the timing belt. the rattle could be cause by play in the pulley. and the engine doesnt usually work as hard once its warmed up. so there could be less strain on it causing the noise to go away.

If this noise is coming from the front of the engine (the side where the belts are)- and rattles when cold or when the engine RPM's are slowly rising roughly between 2000-2500- it might be time to change your timing belt. Over time- the T belt will eventually stretch out and have an excess amount of slack- this extra slack can cause a tapping/rattle type noise from beneath the timing cover.

if you do the belt do the tensioner pulley at the same time!

Well guys my mechanic told me the timing belt is too loose, he's gonna replace the belt, idler pulleys, and water pump for $421. Do you guys think that is reasonable?

My car makes a noise from over there to but it can't be the timing belt because it only has about 3 to 5 thousand miles on it and it has don't it ever sense Bout the car. I thought it would stop after I replaced the timing belt when it broke, but it is still there. And my Idler pullys are fine. And so is my water pump. So can anyone explain that? I would be thankful.
