Default Installing Block Heater on Camry 2007 2.4L

I just moved to Edmonton, Alberta, Canada from Toronto and realized that the harsh winter necessitate that a block heater must be installed.

I approached a few Toyota dealerships and found that it would cost me $243+tax. Out of which $90 is the cost of the block heater.

Anyhow, I serached on the internet and found that new sealed original OEM block heaters are available for $49 on the ebay. The shipping was free. I paid $6 extra for priority mail and purchased one.

My next project was to find instructions on how to install an engine block heater on a 2007 Camry 2007 2.4 Litre. My search was leading me to nowhere when I finally found the instructions for 2007-2010 Camry Hybrid posted at the following link below.

http://www.greenhybrid.com/discuss/f...uctions-12841/

I further researched and found the mechanical design of the fuel engine for hybrid is the same as the regular 2.4L camry. I further confirmed it through the service manual.

I started the job and was done in less than 30-minutes. Including a trip to wash room.

Those who would like to follow the instructions must consider the following,

1. Avoid working on a hot engine.
2. The area should be well lighted and a handheld worklight is available.
3. The hole for the block heater is behind the tubings and may not be visible.
4. Attach the cable to the block heater prior to sliding in the block heater.
5. Slide the block heater from under the transmission cable. Else you may not be able to align the heater to the hole. Use your hand from behind the engine to avoid work thru the tubings.
5. Ensure that the clip on the block heater faces back of the engine [towards the driver]
6. Once install put your hand from behind the engine to ensure that the clip is seated. Just hearing a click sound does not guarantee proper seating. In my case I did hear the click but it was not seated.

Just imagine, a dealer charging over $200 for installation job of less than 30-minutes.

I hope this would work.

Smile Installing block heater on camry 2007

The link to the seller is no more on ebay. However, I found another seller at the following link

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Toyot...Q5fAccessories

It is with free shipping. If you have to serach ebay use the search parameters, "block heater, toyota". Search for Camry will not be successful since this is a common heater for many Toyota and Lexus vehicles.
