If this happens in damp weather may be an electrical issue. The trans has electrical solenoids that shift the gears.
When the OD light flashes a code is stored You can download any codes as follows:
Find a small plastic box in the engine compartment labeled "Diagnostic." Might on the passengers side strut tower. Inside the box are electrical connects.
Turn on ign switch, push O/D button in to engage O/D, using electrical wire or a paper clip connect the TE1 and E1 terminals of the box.
If codes are stored the light will flash them out, one number at a time. Such as 4 flashed, pause, 2 flashes longer pause means code 42. If more then one code they will be read out lower number codes to higher number.
Once all codes are read out they will repeat.
If no codes the light will flash at a steady rate.
Also check the wiring and connections to the these solenoids on the trans. Some solenoids are under the trans oil pan, for these check any wires outside the trans.
