Default HELP! 2000 Toyota Camry -P0106 & P1130 Codes

I am not very savvy with cars- so please excuse me if my terminology isn't the best.

I was driving my 2000 Toyota camry today with 140,000 miles, and it started acting strange and vibrating more than usual. Then I pulled over, opened the hood, and rather than run smoothly, the engine would basically have bursts where it would rev up and down the RPMs. Also, on the RPM dial, the dial would go up and down very drastically, and this would be consistent with the noises coming from the engine.

When driving over about 20-30 miles an hour, the car was fine, but when I would stop at a red light or stop sign and try to go again, it would take between 2-8 seconds to go. I would press the gas and nothing would happen, tried putting in neutral, rev it up, go back to drive, and eventually it would go.

*Went to midas- they did a diagnostic - the guy said timing belt skipping, camshaft position missing signal code. possible bent valves.
he told me the motor is shot, prob need a new engine - said it would be $3,600.

Then I went to autozone - ran the 2 codes P1130, P0106. Now I left the car at another mechanic, they will look at it tomorrow to see if there is something much less serious than having to basically get a new car.

Maybe I can get another opinion and you can let me know your thoughts on this. Any help would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!

Is this a 4 cylinder engine and the car was built to California emissions?

There is a sticker under the hood stating if the car is built to California (CA) or Federal emissions standards.

P0106 is for the manifold air pressure sensor (MAP). A problem with sensor or the vacuum hose going to it.

P1130 is stating there is problem with the air/fuel performance or range. Meaning a problem with an air/fuel sensor or its circuit. Not typical for just this code to come on without another air fuel sensor code pointing to the exact sensor that may be bad.

Suggest you investigate the MAP sensor first. The unit is located on the firewall, a small plastic box having a wiring harness and a small vacuum hose runing to it from the intake manifold. A problem with the MAP sensor can cause your symptoms.

The engine will not be damaged if the timing belt has skipped but will just run bad. IT happens that a belt tooth fails and allows the timing belt to slip. Timing can be checked without needed to take the engine apart.

Without further info on the cars problem would not agree with the Midas representive. Highly suggest another opinion and to stay away from Midas until you can confirm the opinion.

Good start for my problem.
I have a code P1130 and P1135 indicating bank 1 on both.
the diagnostics shows that I have no voltage on O2B1S1.
I am new to the Toyota product but not to cars, the manual is on its way.
The engine is a 3L automatic.
Any leads until the manual shows up ?
Thank you
Sarah

The code is for the heater in the sensor.

Check the A/F heater (HTR) fuse which supplies voltage to the heater circuit of sensor.
