update on my eng pull/trans on blown 97
pulled motor and trans as unit, it came out straight up with no tilting etc., no oil, trans fluid leaks either. Found out had to take out camshafts to get head off as bolts underneath cams..rats. besides the hole in the block I found #3 piston all the way up in bore, rest of pistons all the way down, belt ok, not sure how to test oil pump/spring but will buy new one anyway for peace of mind. Will pull block apart tomorrow and will let all know what bottom end looks like...damage wise.

update: major damage, looks like maybe a rod nut came loose and started carnage, multiple pieces of junk in pan, etc. part of rod cap lodged between block and crank, # 3 rod broke in half, twisted and bottom of piston broken off in numerous places, other 3 pistons/rods ok, hole in block, crank dinged up some but looks ok, the balance apparatus beneath crank destroyed and unusable....basically need new short block with the balancer, not to be comfused with the outside crank balancer you set your timing with. the search now begins
