Default 08 Camry oxygen sensor needs to be replaced - already?

I bought an 2008 Camry a year and a half ago. It now has 46,000 miles on it and the check engine light came on. The dealer said it needs a new oxygen sensor. The tech said the sensors don't usually give out until at least 80,000 miles so what's the deal with my car? Of course it isn't under warranty since I passed 36,000 miles. The car gets serviced every 5,000 miles just as Toyota recommends. Am I completely off base or is this a defective part??

Sounds like a flook thing to me... Id have it cleared an see if it shows back up agian. A lot can cause this to go off. Start by changing your airfilter and maybe spraying the throttle plate with some throttle body cleaner. Try to avoid heavy acceleration.Just my 2cents

You can test the O2 sensor. Why don't you do that first.
