recall when used to see that in stores.
no idea now; I'd ask a tech at one of the A/C service shops ...
seem to recall that it was added same place / way that the freon was topped off - and was a pressurized small can.
limited knowledge - sorry.
someone else chip in.

What makes you think the system needs oil?
1.4 to 1.7 Oz. An internet search on "R12 compressor oil" will come up with hits and who sells it.
There are devices that can add the oil when the system is pressured such as the at the link below:
14388 Robinair Compressor Oil Pump Includes Cap And Seal Assembly Siphon Kit
You will need to find something having the correct fitting to attach to the low pressure side. The fittings changed with the use of R12.
Note: R12 and R132A use different oils, don't, mix them.

here is what i did
i rented 134a dye injector machine for low side ,from autozone .
90.00 on card and you get reimbursed when you return the tool.
kit comes with small 134a to r12 aluminum fitting adapter
then i went to napa and bought r12 mineral oil (one quart) $9.50
i flushed the green dye out of tool best i could, because other people rent the tool it has dye residue .
i filled the 2 oz. reservoir on the injector with mineral oil and started car and turned on a/c . low side vacuum started and draws oil into compressor as you rotate the injector slowly .
i used leather gloves to grip slippery stainless injector
