1996 Toyota Camry Rattling at Certain RPMs
My 1996 2.2L 5SFE Camry starts has a rattling sound coming from it around 1500 and 2000 rpm, but not at any other RPMs. My car has about 14k miles on it.
It sounds like it's coming from somewhere in the middle of my car, not towards the front. It also usually only does this when the car is cold, like when I first turn on the car. It usually goes away after about 10 minutes of driving.
I don't think this is an issue I should be worried about, it's just really annoying. Any ideas what the problem may be?

I would suggest starting the car when it is cold and the climb under there and see if you can locate the rattle. It could be a heat shield or something like that. When the car is cold it tends to idle higher until it smooths out and this higher idle could cause the rattle. Check all exhaust hangers as well and make sure they are in good condition.

My 96 Camry was rattling to, found it was the heat shield over the exhaust manifold in the engine compartment. with the age of the car the shield has rusted under the mounting bolts and was loose when I tugged on it. removed the bolts and put washers on the bolts then retightened, all is quite now. The rattle would resonate at certain rpms only.
