Hi I recently took my 1996 Camry in to inspection and got the following OBDII codes:


P0115 Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit Malfunction
P0401 EGR Flow Insufficient Detected
P0420 Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1)

I could repair it myself, but I don't have the time. Does anyone have an idea approximately how much I should expect to pay to get these items repaired at a local shop?

V6 or 4 cylinder? California or Federal emissions car.

You are asking too much given the info presented to give anything but a real guess on costs. Part costs do not include shop markup often 100%. Labor rates vary all over the place at shops.

This is a lot of codes, are you sure there are not any harness wiring problems, broken wires, etc.

P0115 is the coolant sensor for the computer. Could do this in an hour, sensor cost $35.

P0401 To many variables here, could be just a dirty EGR valve or plugged exhaust tube to EGR. Both can be cleaned. Or could be a vacuum solenoid, vacuum line, etc.

At least a couple of hours labor, part costs will depend on what is wrong. Can run into the $100's for parts.

P0420 This code requires more trouble shooting work. Either the O2 sensors, wiring or converter is bad. Does this car have a converter on each exhaust manifold plus a larger one on the exhaust pipe under the car?

O2 sensors run $60 and up. Aftermarket CAT's $120 and up depending on engine type. If you are in California many CAT's used in other states are illegal in CA, the result is much higher part costs.

If just an aftermarket replacement CAT that is cut out and welded back in the exhaust pipe, about 1 hour labor.
