Default Dash lights ( instrument cluster) dont work when lights are on

Last week, my dash smelt like metal was burning inside of it. Now, when I turn on the head lights, the dash lights do not illuminate. However, when the headlights are not activated, the lights work. any ideas?

Does the glove box light work normally?

Do the dash lights work when the light control is tail position, this being the position right before the headlights ON position? If so, does the dimmer work?

Can you narrow down the smell, are you sure it is under the dash. Could it possible be in the area of the upper left side kick panel?

the dash lights work when in position II ( tail light position/ position before headlights)
glove box light works normally
I dont recognize a foul smell on the left kick panel nor any signs of melted wires

Does the dimmer **** control any of these lights, ash tray, cig lighter, rear window defogger, radio, transmission indicator light on dash and shift lever, heater, blower?

If glove box light works power is getting to the lights (although they may not be working).

The dimmer is wired between all the lights that can be controlled by it and ground. Meaning the dimmer is at the end of the circuit after the light bulbs. Between the bulbs and ground.

The glove box receives power from the same power source the dimmer lights do but has its own ground. Thus not controlled by the dimmer.

All the bulbs are powered by the Tail relay, then the Tail fuse. The Tail relay is controlled by the headlight switch. The relay is controlled by an integration relay that is under the dash.

I posted some info for you in a private message.
