Default steering rack guide adjustment

I am trying to make an adjustment to the rack guide screw on my 98 Camry LE to tighten up my steering and I looked on my car and found a hole where the guide screw and locking nut is supposed to be. I looked into this because my steering is really loose, but it looks like before I can make an adjustment to the steering rack I will first need to buy a replacement rack guide, spring, guide screw, and locking nut (do you know of any other parts I will need here?). Do I just need to insert the rack guide, spring, guide screw and locking nut and adjust or will there be more involved to fix this?

I'm seeing other steering racks for this model camry that look like the one below. Why am I missing the screw that can be seen on this one?

The photo is two dark to see clearly.

There is a hole where the rack guide spring cap should be?

Need rack guide, rack guide seat, rack guide spring, rack guide spring cap, rack guide spring cap lock nut.

i brightened up the picture

it may be the type of adjuster that has two slots and a lock nut and no hex

there isnt much adjustment on the pinion part at that point

if no improvement with an adjustment ..a new rack is recommended

I'm not familiar with the type with two slots and no hex. Can you provide an example of a rack that has that?

That's the only point that will affect the pinion so it has to be something there.

.while trying to work out what was going on there
i had a picture of the slot and lock nut rack and pinion system...... didnt save it

your picture

if there is a lock nut to undo

try this

use a screwdriver or something that works in the grooves , to hold it in place

you undo the lock nut
turn the slotted adjustment inwards a 1/8 turn only say 10 deg s
(this loads the spring up a bit more )
hold the adjuster in place and do the lock nut up
test steering
if it needs more..... replace the rack

The 1999 Camry factory service manual shows a cap with the two slots.

toyomoho, could you scan that page so I can see what you're describing? Could you also scan anything in there about the steering rack and especially about the rack guide or any adjustments to the rack and pinion? I'm hoping that a service manual might shed some light on this matter as there is very little information about it on the web. Thanks.
