Smile 60/40 split is stuck

Hello, I own a 2002 camry and I haven't been able to use the 60/40 split between the trunk and the back seat. The 60 side is stuck. I can open the 40 side but the 60 side is stuck and when you pull up to unlatch it, it will not unlatch. How could you fix that? Thanks.

Have you locked the safety lever on the back of each seat. Then unlocked both seats and reclined them. Then split the seats.

I have checked the lock on both sides. It's not the lock. The side that is stuck the lock lever will not move. It is in the unlocked position. Please advise if there is another way to fix this.

Might try removing the seat back and watching the action of the lever.

How would you remove the seat back?

Never took one off. The outside edges appear to need to go up then out. There is a grove along each side of the seat cover edge engages.

Its either a rusted lock mechanism. The only way to repair this is by removing the rear seat back rest. Or pulling the locking mechanism manually using a long screw driver.
