Default 1993 with a "four-banger"

I'm new to this site and don't really have a whole lot of time to search so I'm sorry if this has been discussed a ba-gillion times. I'm not at all mechanically inclined but I'm wondering if I can get a relatively cheap supercharger for my car. I don't need a ton of extra power just enough to make my camry a bit more competitive. Any help? (preferrably one that just bolts right on) What about a s/c from a Previa? would it fit my engine?

I think your going to have a hard time finding a SC fora 93 5sfe. I was researching the same thing for my 99 (4 cyl), and the only option I have is to swap my 5sfe with a 1mfze and then spend $4000 on a TRD SC. Good luck!

i personaly think that the supercharger kit is very over priced. boosting the 5sfe is a road you can take though for a cheaper price. i pieced together my kit for a lil over 600$ the celica all-trac has the 3sgte engine, and lucky for us the 3sgte exhaust manifold bolts right up onto the 5sfe. from there you can go a few different ways with which turbo you run. the ct26 is the turbo that came on the celicas and mk3 supras over here. the ct20 is the jdm one which spools a lot faster from what i have read, and the ct27 is a turbo made from ats racing which a basicly a step up from the ct26. from there you can also use a 3sgte downpipe but it will not bolt to your exhaust pipe. you will need to go to a machine shop and ask for them to weld and meet them up. you will most likly need a 2 bar map sensor since us 5sfe guys have a 1 bar and the ecu reading so much air coming in will bog your engine down. you will probably need to upgrade your fuel system, running rich makes you lose power but running lean cause your engine to go boom. the walbro 255 fuel pump is the perfered pump and will run you about 90$ on ebay. your stock 5sfe fuel rail is good to go, just need bigger injectors. the rx7 460 cc injectors are plug and play. then you need an engine management system. piggy back or standalone it dosent matter, just so you done run too rich. from what i've listed you'd have a crude setup of a turbo 5sfe. there are many more precautions you can take to run safer. i think you have a rev 2 5sfe. as the rev 1 5sfe ended in 1991 i think. (dont quote me) correct me if im wrong guys. main difference is that your rev 2 5sfe has a knock sensor while the rev 1 dosent. so either way you will be pretty safe and not have to worry about blowing your head.

As ST184 states this engine has been turbocharged. In fact years ago a local Toyota dealer offered a turbo kit thus it is very possible to do this.

Lets be realistic for just a min..You want to turbo charge and engine with 200k 1st of all. That could lead to a number of problems down the road in my opinion.

Im thinking you should just stick with a cai intake and exhuast system and save your money for future repairs

05cam is right, boosting a high mileage motor has a lot more risks but also take note that many of the n/a to turbo engines you hear about blowing out there, the majority of them do not get them properly tuned. i've had my 5sfte setup for 2 years now. and the only thing to ever go wrong was the turbo bearing. (given i'm only at 7psi)

before any major mod be prepared to pay more then expected and don't half *** the job unless you want to pay for it later on. lastly the most important is research! there's a reason why we have forums and the search function.
