Are you retrofitting some new tail lights? Perhaps you need to replace the bumper due to a small fender bender? Whatever the reason, your Camry bumper is very easy to remove and replace. All you need is a few hand tools, some motivation to save a hundred bucks and a few hours of your time. Use these following instructions to remove your rear bumper.

Materials Needed

  • Screwdriver
  • 10mm socket
  • Clip remover

Step 1 – Open the trunk and remove its panels

First pop open the trunk and pry off both panels by hand. At this point you should notice the nuts which are located behind each cover.

  • Use a 10mm socket to remove the bolts and nuts located around the bumper cover (refer to Figure 2).
  • Grab the bumper cover and slowly pull it back, make sure it is not stuck on anything.

Step 3 – Replace the bumper cover

If you are replacing a bumper cover that had initially been damaged, make sure to inspect the support and ensure it is in good shape. After affirming that everything on the support is okay, proceed with the installation process.

  • Align the bumper cover with the vehicle.
  • Lock the bumper cover corners in first with the mounting clips.
  • Tighten each nut and bolt around the bumper cover to 43 in-lbs.
  • Adjust the inside of the trunk panels and clip them back into place.

Pro Tip

If you were replacing the bumper, make sure you had the new unit paint matched. Otherwise the new shade of paint on the bumper can throw the entire flow of the car off!
