Scared of my Camry '08 LE - 1/19/2008 12:32:11 PM

I bought my '08 LE a month ago, and it really worries me that the car feels so "loose" and airy. Cornering, steering, going at faster speeds on the highway in this car are scary to me, because it feels I'm floating in the air.

I have yet to approach 80 mph on the highway because of this fear. In my previous VW-Passat, 80 was a regular speed for me on a major highway like I-95, and I always felt safely "on the ground". But in this Camry, I don't let myself go beyond a 75.

Is it really safe to drive at 80mph in a Camry? Am I being silly?

Actually- its very safe to go 80MPH on a toyota camry; the adjustment is for you to make. The passat is alot heavier and it'll help feel secure/less wind noise and such.

Yeah I cruise at about 80mph on the highway.  It feels nice and smooth and you can't even tell you're going that fast.  If you're having problems cornering, either slow down, hold on tighter, or lower the car.

Eugene08- Don't be scared...your Toyota Camry has electronic/hydraulic  rack/pinion steering...it is designed to translate EVERY LITTLE THING to be felt through the steering wheel. At first it does feel a bit "wandery" (geez is that even a word?) but trust me I rember on my first few Camry PDI's at the dealership...driving them I was like "what the hell?" but we went to tech training in Mass and they fully explained what your explaining

My Camry is a 2005 and it felt loose at first but it became better over time. The best handling improvement was a set of trd springs and sport shocks. Driving to and from college at go around 100 mph and trust me it can got faster. On a "closed track" I took it 128 mph.

Thats funny. Feels like you might hydroplane and just fly away. The weight is very different from the VW to the Camry. Your 2008 will be fine, if not then haul the whole family when you have to get somewhere quick!

You will be fine..... I know i had a truck before this 08 camry and it felt heavier on the road also. But i like the floating ride of the camry. The other day i had it close to 100 mph during rush hour on I-75 going to tampa.......

Actually, the Passat and Camry weigh about the same. It's a matter of suspension tuning. Sounds like you'd be happier in the Camry SE, which is much more firmly sprung than the LE.

I recently started driving my fathers old car, a Lexus GS 400. And compared to what I'm used to I don't care for the soft suspension--which is sporty for a Lexus!

OT: the Camry in the post a couple above is about the hottest I've seen, while still being very tasteful.
