What should a new engine's compression psi be ?

What should an engines mimimum compression psi be before I either overhaul the engine or call the junk man.

Lower compression alone is not enough to call the junk man.  A larger issue is oil consumption and engine power.  Unless the engine has a head gasket leak or other problems would not be too concerned with compression.

A better test is a leak down test.  Air under pressure injected into the cylinder and compared to what is leaking out via a pressure differance readout.
