Replacing fuel tank heat shield - 6/25/2008 12:02:40 PM    gslrider   Posts: 64 Joined: 5/20/2007 Status: offline My heat shield finally broke off. I''d like to replace it, but the bolt holes on the tank that it was on is rusted out. Won''t be able to reuse it. Anyone have an idea how I can mount the new shield onto the tank? Safely. RE: Replacing fuel tank heat shield - 6/26/2008 10:52:23 AM    toyomoho   Posts: 819 Joined: 1/24/2008 Status: offline Were nut clips used that slide onto the bracket, if so you can replace them.  If there is room behind the old nut you can buy a nut clip and slide it in behind the old nut location. There are nuts that can be installed into hole then swaged into place. Try a well stocked hardware store for all of these items. (in reply to gslrider) Post #: 2

I''ll give the nut clips a go. Hopefully the area I slip them onto will be strong enough to hold.
