Can anyone give me some information about what an ABS actuator is? More specifically, does it "reset"? And if so, does it reset when going in reverse as in backing down the driveway or do you have to drive forward to a certain RPM or MPH? Thanks a bunch!

An ABS actuator just has the job of working with ABS sensors and the car''s computer to vary the brake fluid pressure that goes to different brake callipers. With abs it basically assits in the pumping of the brake to prevent lockup and will vary the presure. I''m not sure what you mean by reset.

Thanks for the response. What I mean by "reset" is, upon starting the car, does the actuator have to make an adjustment or shift? If it does, would it make a noise?

No it shouldnt make a noise. The typical noises that a car makes upon starting up tend to be the fuel pump. But then again i''m not a mechanic and so i can be wrong. I dont believe the actuator needs to make adjustments because once it is activated - abs being set off - it will return to normal settings until abs is set off again. Logically, if the actuator fails, you will probably loose proper function of ABS and perhaps even normal braking ability.
