Timing Belt, Broken Bolts, Frustration - 8/28/2006 3:54:26 PM    wantahertzdonut Posts: 16 Joined: 8/28/2006 Status: offline I'm working on changing the timing belt on my car (1992 2.2L 4cyl) and most is going well until the bolt head on the power steering pump shears off. Now this thing is stuck in place and preventing me from finishing the job. I tried pounding the bolt out with no luck, it won't give at all. I also can't get a good hit because the strut is in the way, so no drilling either. I have no way to relieve the tension on the power steering pump belt. Is there any way out of this without hitting the pump with a torch? It's a rather confined space and I don't want to set my car on fire. Also, how can this thing be this stuck? (even the nut is frozen in place) I need to change my timing belt since it's got 111000 miles on it (long story) but this has me stopped in my tracks. We drilled and drilled so there was only 3/8" left in the bore and it still wouldn't come loose. This thing was rusted in place so badly that we had to torch the power steering pump and then beat the crap out of it with a sledge to knock the remains of the bolt. Lesson learned: use your anti-sieze, and don't think your dealer uses it when they do work on your car. Good question. See my last post above yours. We did drill, but it was hardly a cure-all. The bolt got work hardened and we just kept killing bits.
