Hello everyone I am new here. We have 3 Toyotas in our family, a 04 Sienna,01 mrs spyder and 93 Camry station wagon,we're Toyota family. Over course of years I learned how to do my own maintenance on all the cars I own, beside from getting dirty some neck and back pains, the knowledges and accomplishment I learned are priceless.

Today I jacked up my wife's 93 Camry station wagon for brake bleeding job and found out both outer CV joint boots are in bad shape. The passanger outer boot has developed a 2" tear and driver side outer boot is totally torn apart, I did a search on the internet and found those two articles.

and this

my question is. Is it necessary to remove the whole axle assemble if I just want to replace the outer boots?

Also I did a search regard to the subject on this site without much luck. Is there a step-by-step "how to" article written specifically for CV boot replacement on 93 or similar year model camry?

Many thanks in advance

Toyota sells a CV boot kit with the inner and outer boots and grease. Replacing them both would be the more complete repair and makes it easier to replace the outer boot since you will not have to seperate the outer universal joint from the shaft (which can be a pain in the ass and can cause problems if done incorrectly). It's much easier if you remove the entire shaft (which can be done in minutes) and seperate the inner joint from the shaft> once it's removed you can replace both boots in litte time and effort.

You can knock off the outter joint without taking the whole axle out but why?  You can replace with a reman or brand new one for under 70 bucks a piece.  One place comes to mind is napa auto, have had no reliablity problems at all and retail is around 55 for most cars.  I use napa only as a reference, I don't for them nor would I ever
