My 1993 Camry has no spark it turns over but will not start. I checked the distributor and replaced the cap and rotor buttom. The primary and secondary coils of the ignition coil check out OK. I have 12 volts to the distributor.

The car just died while I was driving. Had to have it towed. Haven't been able to start since. Anybody got any suggestion besides take it to the dealer?

My 93 Camry has done the same thing, twice. I initially had the spark plugs and wires changed and it worked for 8mos. Both times it shut down while I was driving. Felt a loss of power for a couple of weeks prior to the shut downs. Acts like it wants to start, just will not turn over. I was told it is the ignition module. I just purchased one for $200, am having it put on this evening. Will let you know if it works.

I replaced my distributor and that fixed my problem. I got a remanufactured one at Auto Zone for $160. It came with a lifetime garauntee. Good luck to you.

The place to check for spark is at the plug wire; and since you have power in to the distributor but not out, then there is most likely where the problem is. Take the distributor to an auto electric shop and have it tested, if its dead you will of course be changing it for a new/rebuilt. Also a couple of other things to keep in mind:

1. Its possible the distributor is in wrong. After the first time you pulled it it may have gone in wrong, i've never worked on the distributor to my Camry but on many cars it is possible to put the distributor back 180 degrees off. This means spark comes at the wrong time or possibly no spark. Also the timing could be too far off to start the engine.

2. I had this problem on my Nissan truck - the distributor drive shaft from the oil pump could be broken. It is pretty unlikely that this has happened but it's possible. It is easy to tell if this has occured, because if the shaft is broken the rotor will turn by hand (with distributor installed in the engine).
