Okay so i washed my car with something that i shouldnt have... it was a brush, and it left swirls all over the car.  What's the best way to get em off?  wax ? buff? compound?

try clay bar then cleaner wax then swirl/haze rmover BY HAND then glaze wax then 2 layers ov teflon wax ; unless you know how to use a buffer. buffers can actually burn paint. hope this helps!

While claying is never a bad idea, it will likely do little to remove your finish damage, but go ahead and clay so you have a clean palette.

Your approach will depend a little on the color of the vehicle and the overall condition of the paint.  Lighter cars will be easier to get looking better than darker cars.  Another factor includes the kind of buffer you have, if any.

Assuming you're working by hand and if you have a good cleaner wax, try that in a test area. I really like Mothers Carnauba Cleaner Wax (some comes with their Clay Bar Paint Saving System). It's a very good polish/wax combo. If you feel you need more polishing, try a dedicated pre-wax cleaner or scratch remover. Depending on how that responds might depend on whether you finish with a cleaner wax or a sealer & glaze (which will help hide minor defects as well as add depth) and finally use a pure wax for protection.

No matter your approach to scratch removal -- and whatever steps, if any, you have in between -- you always want to finish with either a cleaner wax or a pure wax for protection.

I use the Porter Cable random-orbit buffer with the standard yellow and white pads (absolutely safe, even if you have no idea what you're doing), and use Meguiars' cleaner, then polish, then wax. Moderately priced, does a good job.  Little scratches disappear. Never really saw the return on investment (work)  with clay, but that's just me.  Others swear by it.

buff it. rub then cleaner wax then carnuba wax.
