1993 camry tranny not going into gear

Have a 1993 Camry and my daughter drove to work and when she went to come home forward gears wouldn't work, reverse works fine but no forward motion. Could it be the solenoids in the tranny or a ecm unit?

The trans operates both electronically and hydraulically.

Try manually putting the trans into the forward gears.

Lack of forward or reverse (which can be suddenly) typically means internal problems which requires major out of car trans repairs.

Hello Joey, I know I can change the solenoids from inside the pan, could it be the ECM? Tried putting it in 1st, 2nd and D and nothing.
Thanks Kevin (The Edge)

Suppose you could unplug the wiring harness from the trans to isolate it from the ECU. This should turn off all solenoids if for some unknown reason the ECU has some strange failure.

Using the shifter will override the ECU shifting to a point . Meaning if the trans is manually put into 1st gear it should be in that gear and stay there. If in 2nd gear the trans will shift between 1st and 2nd only.

Very much doubt its the ECU.

If you want to know the details of this trans see private message.
