1999 Camry Neutral Start Sensor question

I have a 1999 Camry that recently stopped starting some of the time. We figured out that it's not always recognizing that the transmission is in Park (the light on the dashboard doesn't light up). But sometimes it does recognize it's in Park and will start. started out just a couple times, but now does it about 70% of the time. It seems to start in Neutral fine and sense when it's in every other gear fine. I was going to replace the Neutral Start Sensor connected to the transmission, but I'm wondering if there is another sensor near the shifter that needs replaced. Also, I looked at the transmission shift cable and the accordion boot over the wire near the neutral start sensor has become dislodged at the top and is now drooping and showing the exposed shifter wire.
I'm wondering if I need a whole who shifter cable as well. Just looking to see if anyone has any advice on this before I spend money on parts and possibly a mechanic to do some of this.

The switch can be taken apart and cleaned.

If you don't have the skills to take it apart, try spraying contact cleaner into the body.

The shift cable is expensive and time consuming to change. If up to it, obtain an aftermarket replacement boot and install it.
