2000 V6 Manual P0340 Code
 

Hey guys,

My car will start but it runs rough and there is no power to accelerate. Wondering if anyone knows if this engine has 1 camshaft sensor or 2. My Haynes manual only talks about 1 of them (easy to get to right on the front of the engine), but Autozone says there are 2. Link below.


My ODB reader said it was a bank 1 issue and just before that I had a Cylinder 2 Misfire Code P0302. The sensor on the front would be bank 2 yes? Which makes me think its the sensor on the back of the engine as opposed to the easy to get to one on the front (the only one the haynes manual mentions).

Kinda confused, any advice would be greatly appreciated!

The ign has a crankshaft and camshaft sensor. There is only one cam sensor.

The code is for camshaft position sensor circuit malfunction. Issues could be short or open circuit or sensor.

The sensor is located on the drivers side of engine. The fire wall side of the upper timing cover area (bank 1). The sensor picks up a signal from the camshaft pulley. It can be accessed from outside the engine.

Resistance cold 835-1400 ohm. Hot 1060-1645 ohm. Remove harness plus to check ohms after disconnecting battery and waiting 90 seconds.

Thanks for the response! Funny that the Repair manual discusses checking and replacing the camshaft sensor but only mentions one sensor on the drivers side of the engine towards the bumper.

I had tested that one with the ohm reader and for 1444 on a cold engine, and confirmed that the circuit was closed. I ordered a new sensor, and kept digging on info on the repair and found that auto zone page talking about the camshaft sensor you seem to be talking about.

I am hoping that since the one the Manual discussed on the front was just out of spec, replacement will fix the problem. Should be delivered on Friday, with a little luck I will have good news on Saturday. Or I may need to pick your brain a little more on the situation.

I still have trouble locating the camshaft position sensor (Bank 1). Would you please upload some pictures that would help me out. thanks

Year of car and engine type, V6 or 4-cylinder?

Check rear (firewall) cylinder bank, passengers side of camshafts (where the drive gears are). Check the firewall side of the inboard camshaft where its drive gear is.
