2004 Camry Oil Pan thread
So i stripped my oil pan thread and went to napa and got a oversized self-tapping piggyback plug. I pretty much know what to do but after like 1 1/2 hours i could not get the damn thing to screw in. It fits in the hole but its impossible it feels like to get it to cut new threads. Should i be using a drill or something?? I was using my hand till i got it to stay then tried a wrench on it but it kept falling out.

Does your wrench is working perfectly? try to use fliers or anything that can help loosen or tighten it up.

well ya im just using a regular 18mm wrench, loosening is not a problem, im having trouble getting the new threads started. Do i just need to muscle in that bitch or is there something im missing

Did you get the right size plug? There are also metric and English thread plugs.
If you can't get the plug to start self tapping the existing hole is too small (or new plug OD too large) or you need to apply more thrust when turning the plug. If possible compare the thread OD of the replacement plug to the old plug. There are metric oversize thread plugs. |
