2004 Camry transmission removal

To remove and swap transmissions, must you pull the entire motor/tranny and then unbolt the transmission? Or is there some way to remove the driver side axle parts/frame support to pull it out sideways and drop down?

You can sling the engine from a host, then drop the subframe, tilt engine and remove trans from under the car. You will need to remove both axles. Given the axles are removed obviously the car can not be moved so plan accordingly. You will need help if going this route to handle the trans and engine.

When installed the torque converter, BE SURE TO fully install the converter so that it is engaged onto the trans oil pump drive shaft. Note the tang and grove system of mating converter to the oil pump. If the convertor is not mated it will slightly extend out of the bell housing and when the trans is bolted to engine drive the converter into the oil pump causing damage.

Also make sure the convertor is filled with before installing as it does not self prime.
