2008 V6 Suspension Recommendations
 

Hello everyone.

This is my first post.

Trying to figure out a Christmas gift for my wife, so a bit strapped for time.

Wife drives a 2008 Camry XLE V6.

She loves the car, but gets very frustrated when she hits the gas, and the car sits there with a tire spinning.

We tried better tires with little success.

I'm thinking that 278hp on FWD is the primary culprit.

I drive a heavily modified supercharged Mustang. So my only experience is with tuning RWD.

I'm looking for recommendations/testimonials on a good suspension setup, that will improve her love for the ride.

She doesn't drive like a maniac (thats my job).
So cornering, and nose dive isn't a big concern.

Mainly, just looking for longevity, and putting the power on the ground.

All she really wants is to be able to launch, without sitting there spinning her tires.
Especially when accelerating in a turn.

Of course I want it to be perfect, and cheap.
(Who doesn't?)

I was looking at this Megan Racing coilover kit.

Thinking all I really need to do is...

1. Install
2. Lower front end ~1/4"
3. Stiffen up the struts all around, but stiffen the back end a little more than the front, to keep the weight from rocking off the front tires.
(Pretty much the opposite from the setup on my Mustang)

Is it that simple?

Can anyone vouch for this coilover kit?
(Or recommend something else?)

Any idea how long these or others might last?


When I converted to coilovers on my Mustang, the ride got super clunky (noisy).

She does not like riding in my Mustang.
(But drivers don't feel their ride as much as passengers)

Can I expect the same clunky ride if I redo the suspension on the Camry?
Or are there smoother, quieter options available?

Suspension changes are not going to help tire traction due to excess HP unless you are experience wheel hop. This does not appear to be your problem.

A high MPG, long life tire is made of harder material. Need a softer tire.

If you get into coil overs and such you will have the same issue as the Mustang.

Camry had an SE option which had mild suspension mods which drivers could live with. Might look into these. Research 2008 Camry SE.

There is definitely some wheel hop.
But that isn't the main problem.

With my rwd car, softening the rear end, and stiffening the front made a huge difference with traction during acceleration.

So I was thinking the opposite might be true with fwd.

I'll look into the SE suspension.
