2018 Camry Oil Change ?

For you guys who do your own oil changes, how difficult and messy is it to change oil and filter on the new 2018 4-cylinder Camry's? I know there is an access panel that has to come off in order to get to the drain plug and the filter. And the only thing I don't like is it doesn't have a spin on filter. So you have to screw with a filter cartridge, along with O-Rings and such. Which tends to be very messy. Another thing I noticed is there was a sticker under the hood showing 0W-16 oil. I've never heard of that weight oil, and know of no brand in that weight. It sure seems thin for Arizona Summer heat which can easily reach 115F+ in June. So what are you guys using, and how difficult is the whole process? Thanks in advance.

There is an oil drain plug on the bottom of the filter canister. Drain oil, then remove canister. The filter kit may have a pipe that fits into the drain hole to channel the oil flow.

But first obtain the special canister wrench available at auto parts stores or on internet to loosen canister. Not all brands work equally well, check feedback of brands.

Don't over tighten canister when reinstalling.

There may be an oil tube extending down into the filter that could break. Don't apply side forces to the canister when removing.

There is a 0W-16 oil available in the US. Apparently it has been used in Asia for a long time.

A quick internet search found the following brands : Toyota and Honda, Ravenol (sold via Amazon) and Carquest. Carguest is an auto parts chain store which should be cheapest. There may be other brands.

Check owners manual which should provide oil weights based in high/low air temps.

Camry used to use 0W-20, 0W-30 and 5W-30. Toyota is using lower weight oil to improve MPG. The weight selection may not be driven by engine requirements but marketing and EPA CAFE.

Well the good news is I'm now hearing that Toyota has gone to a spin on oil filter for the Camry in 2018. It is part #90915-10009. I'm assuming my car has this type of filter.
