232,000 miles on spark plugs??????
Just had my mechanic put in a new timing belt. Asked him to,check the sparks plugs. To my knowledge they have never been changed. My wife is the original owner, and to my guess, the plugs have never been changed. The mechanic said they are Denso factory plugs. Is it possible to get 232,000 miles on a set of plugs? He said they looked fine.

The best spark plugs are stated to have a life of 150K.
Are you asking if the mechanic actually looked at plugs and didn't know they had 232K? |

That is a good question. I changed mine at 150,000 not knowing if changed before. They were worn for sure but not damaged in any way. Also been in there so long not easy to get out especially rear ones.
Be very careful removing on these old ones. Blow out debris first with compressor air after gingelly removing boot by slowly turning. For plug, I would loosen, then tighten a little, loosen further tighten a little to release thread slowly. The rears are hard. At least mine. 95 Camry V6 but can be done without taking a bunch of parts apart.Dielectric grease should be applied to keep the spark from your ignition coil, which is supposed to go through the spark plugs, from arching around. It also prevents it from going through the boot to the ground. Since dielectric grease is an insulator, it should sparingly be applied to the inner wall of the spark plug boot only. |
