95 camry engine light

Since one cannot check the engine light with the Autozone people on a 95 Camry can someone give me a short list of the possible reasons for a check engine light for a 95 Camry with 314,000 miles on it and how would you get the check engine light to go out? thanks

The Camry with V6 option is supposed to be a type of ODBII complient system.

If 4 cylinder suggest visiting the Autozone website and looking the their vehicle repair guides.

This car has a "Diagnostic" port located in the engine compartment inside a small plastic box bolted to one of the strut towers.

Open the box and use a section of wire to connect the TE1 and E1 terminals then turn on the ign switch. The CEL will begin to flash out any two numerial codes stored one numerial at a time. Example: 1 flash pause, 2 flashes pause = code 12.

Codes will read out in order from lowest to highest then repeat. If no codes are stored the CEL will flash at a constant rate of about 2 flashes a second.

If your car is running fine it is probably just an oxygen sensor. Toyota is famous for those going bad and now even worse with the gas bieng cut.

oxygen sensor
I think it won't help.

I got the same problem with my 95 camry le. It recently came up because it's running low on oil I think. And I'm in need of a oil change. That might be the same problem with years, and damn!!! 314,000+ miles?! holy cow....

Thanks. It just isn't doing it on a regular basis which makes it hard to locate the exact problem. I put another bottle of fuel injector cleaner in it yesterday. Since this car does not have a fuel filter I can change maybe the injectors are not getting too dirty?

Check with Toyomoho. He should have your answer. My light finally went out and has not come back on. I changed out some evap hoses, fuel filter, cleaned the throttle body, etc. Never did use the terminal box but I know it is coming cause I still have the car and now with 320,000 miles on it. Not sure what has kept it off but hey, so long as I don't have one OK!

Also, you can buy a cheap OBDII scan tool from local auto stores. Plugs into connector usually under drivers kick panel and sometimes in junction block near left knee area. Recommend not to replace parts if you don't know they're malfunctioning. Wastes time and energy. DTCs are pretty specific and a decent scan tool can pay for itself within the first few uses.
