My 2015 Camry Xle was just failed for state inspection for what they said was "Currently not passing front and rear brakes the inboard pads not making contact with the rotors." I had never heard of this before I generally do my own brake work. I questioned the Service manager and he told me that it was that the rotor and the pads are the same size edge to edge and the rust build up was causing the pads to not be in complete contact with the rotors. Need to turn rotors and replace pads. Has anyone heard of this situation ??? Definitely a new one for me!!!

Don't understand the statement of "rotor and the pads are the same size edge to edge."

Also don't understand how the inboard pads are not making contact with the rotor. Are the pads binding up in the holder? Is the rotor so grooved and rust pitted that the pads are not making FULL contact with the rotor?

Cars do fail because of this call by the inspector. This call can be judgemental as some other inspector would not think it was a problem.

Where was the car inspected? Does the inspection station also do repairs as in is there a profit motive here?

Possible photos of rotor/pad contact area?

If your stuck fixing the issue just get new rotors and pads.
