Breaking down and overheating
 

My Camry, if left in idle too long will over heat, I've never left it long enough to see if it'll shut off on its own, but then when I crank the engine and try to drive it might go 3 feet with the wheel shaking like crazy and then they car just shuts off. After that it will take about an hour for the car to work again. The car has also a couple times did the exact same thing without being in idle or overheating and would also work fine an hour or so later. We've taken it to two at least decently respected mechanics in our fairly big town and neither of them can find anything wrong with it.

The car never has any problems once it's going, never shut down on the highway or anything. the only time the car has had troubles is when left in idle or right after being cranked

Has anyone had had this happen also and been able to fix it, or even have an idea on what may be wrong?

Year and engine type?

When overheating does the coolant temp gauge go into the red?

Don't keep allowing the engine to overheat or there will be major engine damage.

The radiator should have a couple of fans mounted to it on the engine side. If the engine coolant starts to get too hot. These fans should turn to pull air through the radiator and cool it down. When the engine starts to get hot, are the fans turning on.

If the car has A/C, turn it on. Watch the fans. They should start to cycle on and off.

Did any of the mechanics check for a blown head gasket?

Have you been needing to add engine coolant to the reservoir to make up for it being lost?
