bum antenna

i have a 96 camry with a bad antenna. i bought the car used and the power antenna is only half way up. is the dome light tied into the power for the antenna because it doesn't work as well.? is there any way to jumper the antenna motor to get it to move up or will it be ok to grab the antenna and pull up? my radio reception sucks with the antenna only half way up. i don't hear the motor when i turn on the radio.

on a 96 I am not sure if dome light and radio share the same fuse

sedan or wagon
pillar mount or guard mount
some antennas were manual and some motorized

if radio was changed to something after market
the antenna motor wire may not have been connected up

if you cant hear the motor .(depending on mount type fitted )

wagon or sedan boot plastic internal trims will need to be removed to reach the motor to test it

it is a 4 door sedan and the antenna is in the back on the passenger side the car is a 96 camery lx model.and yes it is a power antenna. is there any way to extend the antenna all the way up?

on most newer motorized antennas its metal extendable part is normally attached to a plastic ratchet
pulling the metal part up with force may strip the ratchet

called a mast and rope

looks like you will need to reach the motor and with a volt meter see if it has power and a good earth

or the problem is at the black radio wire connections

i found a web site with a 94 shop manual is that close enough for a 96. i was also told to disconnect the wires to the relay and apply 12v pos to the red wire and it should go up. if worse comes to worse i will take the power antenna out and put a manual antenna in for now.

The antenna has a plastic coiled rod that moves it up and down. This rod can break. Replacement antenna's with the rod are available.

I cant answer the antenna motor power up question

looks like the 94 shop manual covers most of your 96
