CVT gearboxes require special oil ..clear to look at or green - not red - and labelled suitable for CVT transmissions only add the wrong oil and goodbye gearbox
when to change a CVT gearbox oil
found some information on CVT transmissions

CVT transmission oil change question

if the service book says nothing about a CVT oil change interval

kms or mileage is not used as a oil change interval guide
not a monthly or yearly time frame

the life left in the CVT transmissions oil is calculated by an oil test and scale % of deterioration

ask how much it is for a CVT fluid analysis ? to get its oils deterioration date

update early 2015

i havent found anymore information online to update this topic

toyomoho 01-08-2015 12:00 PM

Have you ever found any info about why some auto trans of the same model have raised letters on the case and others have stamped letters?

The used trans dealers list raised and stamped lettered trans of the same model separately for reason unknown.

dirty hands 01-09-2015 05:02 AM

I have been searching ever since that question was posted last year

its the same gearbox external and internal --as far i can see-- both bolt on

never see this before myself

I cant even get a picture of the two different cases to investigate

I can only speculate

a design change during the run of the box
- different alloys or case shell thickness modification ..that had to be casing specific

would have to chase down the suppliers of the gearbox- assembly plant records etc

Needs two different moulds and techniques on the same casing and gearbox design

raised lettering or stamped could be done anytime during the outer case forming

toyomoho 01-09-2015 10:40 AM

Perhaps a casting improvement change that included cast letters to eliminate stamping of ID. Or two different manufacturers, etc

It appears even used trans sellers don't what the difference is.

The issue is seekers of used trans don't know if one can be substituted for another.

Camry Transmission .in a 2003 camry .is the box the forum topic was about
https://www.camryforums.com/forum/di...ication-49847/

this particular box was used for years 2001 to 2009 in toyotas..thats a lot of years for any changes

I would say any U241E raised or stamped will have the same box internals and housing should bolt on

first time ever the raised letters have been raised in any forum

I found a repair manual for it today and added it to the list of auto boxes - 20 pages

also found this information online --mentions stamped boxes only a few times 9 pages pdf
