Camry2001 problems
 

My 2001 Camry recently suddenly has 2 problems it seems. Electricity seem as if it doesn't flow through the whole car. Only the headlights work and the lights on the ceiling of the car work. All the other lights on the dash and break/back lights don't work. Signal lights are out as well.

My 2nd problem is my gears won't change unless I use the button override right above the clutch. I was in a parking lot then it suddenly stalled and power went off in the car. I can still drive it but power is flowing everywhere.

Someone suggest that maybe a rely fuse is out perhaps the transmission relay fuse. For the 2nd problem they suggested the I need a new neutral safety switch. These suggestions seem logical but I'm still confused with how 2 things can go wrong at the same time.

Does anyone have any advice or experience with these problems?

Most likely a fuse.

The shift lockout receives electrical power from 3 different fuses. If no power to one of these fuses the lockout may not work.

The owners manual may have the location of the fuse boxes. Several are in the engine compartment, another is behind the drivers side dash coin/ash tray.

Also check the 100A fusible link in a small plastic box, drivers side of engine. compartment.

Check the 100A fusible link and the AM1 fuse first.
