DIY and Warranty

Hi,
I own a 1997 Camry Hybrid, it's over 5 years now, so most of the car warranty are gone, except Battery and "specified Major Emission Control Components" which are engine control module,Catalytic converter and Protector,Data link connector.
I would like to change engine oil myself to save money and time waiting at the dealership, will doing so VOID the warranty for battery and emission control components? (they got 8 year warranty)
Thanks

Your question is common. Many owners do their own oil and filter changes from the start (assuming no free oil change period).

In general federal law states after market parts and services can not void the warranty. The dealer needs to proof any parts and services caused the warranty concern.

This stated dealers have refused to do warranty work for all kinds of reasons, some valid some not.

To prevent warranty issues owners keep written records (with receipts) of oil and filter changes (date/mileage) and use the recommended oil. By doing this the dealer can not state that ongoing maintenance as defined in the owners manual was not preformed.

Thank you

Thanks Toyomoho

Just want to double check with you guys, from day 1 the dealer implied otherwise but I was too lazy to verify.

you should try to verify at least once...
