Inverter Installation Tips?
 

Hi all,

I would like to install a 400W inverter in my 93 Camry and I have decided that the most suitable place would be below the passenger seat. However, I am having difficulties wiring the inverter to the battery as I cannot seem to find any grommet on the firewall to pass the wire through.

Does anyone here have any experience with hooking up an inverter or passing wires through the firewall? I'm trying to avoid the $100 my mechanic will charge me and get it done before the winter season kicks in :D

The electrical bulkhead fittings typically have a connection plug at the firewall. Sealant is typically applied to holes and fittings through the firewall.

The wiring passes through the firewall on the left and right side of the car. You need to pick a side you want the wire to pass through then look for a cable, etc passing.

Once found open the sealant around the cable/harness then push through a dull pointed rod, etc to form a hole. Once you have the wires.

For installation a Google search will produce a lot of hits on installing an inverter in a car.

Read the directions on the inverter. Some inverters have an off/on electrical terminal for remote operation. If not a relay will be needed unless you want the system to be on all the time.

You can install the unit in engine or passenger compartment.

Take note of the wire size needed for DC power required say 40A which require a #8 wire.

Inverters are prone to make a lot of electrical noise which interferes with AM radio.

They also consume a lot of DC power make when using not to run the battery down.
