Location of speed sensor in 1998 Camry LE

1 Attachment(s)
My son's car, a 1998 Camry LE, 4Cyl, has check engine light come on at times. the speedometer does not work once the car is in motion, but after 10 or 20 miles it starts working again on its own. The code points to the speed sensor being bad. I bought a new sensor but unfortunately cannot locate it in the car. I have found many pictures in Google Images but neither I nor my son can locate where it is to replace it.

Can someone kindly point out where it is? A picture would be nice.

I read that there are two speed sensors. The picture of the one that I purchased is attached.

Look on top of the transmission housing in the area where the axles enter on the sides.

The sensor is rotated by a gear on the pinion.

The plastic top and bolt holding the sensor into the case should be visible.

You may need to swap the old sensor gear to the new sensor.
