Maint Reqd Light in instrument cluster
 

I am new owner of 2013 Camry LE. At 5000 miles an amber light came on the instrument panel. I assume this is to tell me to go to the dealer and get my car serviced. I don't go to the dealer to get my car serviced. I'm a DIYer and my question is how do I turn the light off. It is very annoying and I consider it a safety hazard for any amber light to be on unnecessarly as it is a constant distraction to the driver. I tried my scan tool and clicked the message to turn off the CEL. Didn't work. I intend to do all my own maint since the dealer is about a 100 miles away round trip. Can someone tell me how to turn the darn light off. I would like to deactivate it for good.

Try the following:

Turn ign key to ON to determine if instrument cluster is displaying trip meter A, if not change to trip A then turn ign key OFF.

Hold trip meter reset knob down then turn ign key to ON. Continue holding reset down until trip meter reads all O's.

Turn ign switch off.

The system can not be deactivated.

I wish the car designers had learned what the airplane designers learned a long time ago. That is the "dark cockpit concept". Lights only on start up. When running, no lights except instrument lights or unless action must be taken right then. Called the dark cockpit, not distractions.

Yes, those minor warning lamps that flash on as if it's a life or death situation are most irritating. More so when they're wrong!
A friend recently bought a '95 Jeep Cherokee. His very-brightly flashing 'low washer fluid' warning comes on at random, accompanied by a loud annoying beep. Even though there's plenty of fluid in the bottle!
As for myself, The 'D' light on my '96 Camry's dashboard shift indicator was burned out when I acquired the car three years ago. As bright as the other shifter position lights are, I can appreciate not having to stare at that glaring 'D' all the time - especially at night.
For those pesky, 'non-catastrophic', warning-lamps that won't die, no need to resort to violence. A small square of black electrical-tape, strategically placed, can be very effective!
