Hi,

I'm helping a friend buy a used car. We found one, so I went to used car's mechanic this morning. When we were talking, I saw him pour vinegar (Target brand 1 gallon) into the windshield wiper fluid reservoir on someone else's 2010 era Honda Accord or Civic. Mechanic is not seller of car we're looking at.

I've never heard of vinegar as a windshield wiper fluid substitute.

Should I avoid this mechanic for repairs?

Or does vinegar have a benefit or equivalence to windshield wiper fluid that I should start using in my 1989 Camry?

vinegar and water mix is a well known non toxic glass cleaner

This wash mixture will freeze at 32F. If you expect freezing temps be sure to replace the fluid or add some type of alcohol to lower the freezing temp.
