Default new Monroe Struts, car is now too high

I just installed 2 new Monroe Strut / Coil Spring / Mount Assembly 172206 and 172205 on my 2005 Camry. Everything went well until I lowered the jack and noticed the gap between the tire and part above it (whatever that’s called) is significantly bigger than before. I don’t know what I did wrong, can’t think of any. I did google search and some had suggested that it will go away and back to normal after 500 miles or so. My questions, 1) will it get back to normal heights after a while, 2) what is the downside of driving the car this high?

ahh you got the springs the tower and strut as one unit

good thinking

parts listing says that the shocks suits the 2005 camry

toyomoho will be along to advise also

my thoughts
in a short while that shock height will settle ..your old shocks must have been in a bad way
you should get a wheel alignment

the last digit difference means left and right (you cant mix them up )
172206 and 172205

yes, my Camry is 2005, I got them as one unit assembly. i didn't want to bother with changing the coil/shock. I did make sure I got the correct side for the strut. I hope toyomoho can help.

Only one Monroe Quick-Strut is listed and you have them.

Is the car a stick shift and what engine type, 4-cylinder or V-6?

Its a common complaint with these struts on Camry. The chassis tends to lower toward a normal height after a few days of driving.

I got both struts, the one ends with 06 and 05 models numbers. its 05 LE automatic 4 cylinder. what is the downside of driving the car like that? is it safe?

If an auto trans the replacement strut spring should be OK.

If the car sits higher the center of gravity is also higher. This could result in more body sway when cornering.

Monroe designed the strut assy for this model car and engine type. If a problem they would have corrected by now. Unless a defective products the car is safe to drive.

Measure the body height and check for changes over the next few days as you drive the car. The assy may compress with driving and lower the chassis to something more normal.

If the struts were purchased from thought Amazon had a 30 day return policy for credit if unhappy with the item.

The Monroe site lists the strut assy extended dimensions at 21.770 inches.

If all fails and you can't return the struts you can swap the springs for the old struts. This will lower the chassis height.
