OBD code P0442 on 2000 Camry LE
 

Check engine light came on last month with Code P0440 (no other codes). After reading some posts, I replaced the gas cap with a New Toyota gas cap and cleared the code. Check engine light came on after ~300 miles, this time with code P0442 (Eval System Leak), no other codes. The OLD gas cap was fine (i put that cap in my brother's camry, same year and model) and no check engine light on that camry.
Before I take to the "stealership", what all I need to check to determine if this is something I can fix.

Car drives ok with this light. 2000 Camry LE, 75K miles on. (I had a front fender bender couple of months back.)

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

P0442 = Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (Small Leak).

The fuel tank evaporation system (EVAP) has a built in pressure sensor. When a cold engine is started, the computer runs through a testing sequence. A vacuum (low pressure) is applied to the (EVAP) system to test it. If this low pressure rises too rapidly toward atmosphere pressure, the computer thinks there is a leak. Based on how rapid the pressure raises a trouble code is generated P0455 (or P0456) for a large leak, P0442 for a small/medium leak.

The gas cap is a common cause. If this does not fix the problem, the charcoal canister case, vacuum hoses, valves or any hose (large or small) going to the fuel tank could have a leak. The fuel tank could also have a leak but this is very uncommon. These items are located under the car forward of the gas tank.

Check for damaged, leaking hoses, cracked canister, checking the valves, etc takes more skill.

i found a crack in the rubber hose near the egr valve. Replaced the hose and cleaned the egr with some throttlebody cleaner. Will report back if this was indeed the culprit.

I checked the charcol canistor, hoses, filler tube for rust. All looking very nice and no rust or discoloration of any kind.
